Adventure in the Ocean

The sun shone brightly on the silver sands of the beach. We were excited to take on the blue waters of the ocean. Hiring a motorboat for the day we set out on the sojourn to travel across the ocean to the adjacent island. I had packed a few cakes, chips and lots of water for the day. This was our long awaited adventure. The summer vacations made sure our wait came to an end. Raj, me and Vikram had decided to go on an adventure trip to Australia. Being one of the driest, and hottest countries in the world we were up against adverse weather conditions. But on the contrary people in Australia were amazing with their wit and a happy go lucky attitude. Our tour guide Clara ensured that we were on time and through with every formality. “I am going to rip apart the waters. Come on boys.” Raj said as he was ecstatic to ride the boat. Strapping on the life jacket, put on the sunglasses we got ourselves on the boat. Raj revved up the engine as we zoomed into the blue waters. My heart was b

The Jailbreak

I opened my eyes ever so slowly. I was lying down on a hard surface. The walls had a shade of grey and a roughened up exterior. The room was barricaded by iron rods, and two people in orange garbs were staring back at me. My vision was blurred and the head was throbbing in extreme pain. My temple was blaring sirens. I tried to get on my feet but wobbled in the process. I sat on the bench. The place had a rotten smell and atmosphere didn’t encourage much of positivity. I was restlessly rubbing my eyes unaware of where I was? How did I land up here? Who are these people in orange garbs? I had eyes wide opened. To my horror, I realized that I was inside a prison cell with burly inmates staring back at me. I tried to remember the events from the past. I could remember coming back from my office having my dinner and going to sleep. But how did I end up waking up over here? The police officer went across the cell, I asked him, “Why I have been brought here, sir?” “Because you are a filthy

Note from the past

I came out of my office. It was a hard-earned day. Working along with the clientele, understanding their requirements, pitching in your point of view, keeping things under a feasible budget. Welcome to Software development. It's been a while I have been working as a developer at Technoprise Inc. The pay is good, projects offer challenge and I love working with my colleagues. Sometimes we have to wait late into the night. Development is always a race against deadlines. “When is the next deadline?” Mayanti asked She worked in the Management Department. “The coming Friday,” I said making a cup of coffee from the vending machine. “That’s like now.” She said. “Yeah, but that’s what we get paid for,” I said with a smile. "You are always working." She said keeping her arm over my shoulder. “Let’s go I will drop you at your home,” I said. We went downstairs in the parking. There was a note stuck on the windshield of the car. I took it to have a closer look. The note said,

The Labyrinth

I opened my eyes, the world around me was a blur. I sat on my bed wrapped in my sheets. I got out of bed to use my bathroom. I couldn’t find the bathroom’s door. I looked around and it was not even my room. ‘How did I get in here?’ I thought. Last night I was in my bedroom, I remember sleeping right after setting up the alarm. Right in front of me, I could see a signboard on the wall that read “You have an hour get out of the labyrinth. Do not touch the walls.” I didn’t understand. But intuitively I started walking where the path took me. The walls around me were sketched with strange drawings. The script looked ancient and the drawings resembled occurrences of the past. I kept following the trail, counting my lefts and rights. “Labyrinth is a maze with a unique path from centre to the outside world. Each one in the labyrinth has his own path.” The inscription on the wall read. I saw a woman come my way, I said, “Hello ma’am. How long have you been searching your way out?” I as

A walk in the Yeoor

I woke up, sitting on my bed wrapped in my sheets. The floor was too cold. Taking a cold shower got me up and running. Outside it was still dark, a bark of the dog and the hustle of the milkman enlivened the silence of the early hours of the morning. I was rubbing my hands vigorously to keep them warm. I walked steadily towards Yeoor hills. It is a range of pristine mountains that is spread across Thane and runs up towards Borivali. It has been a hub for fitness enthusiasts, nature buffs and trekkers since a long time. I have been regularly jogging the Yeoor Hills since the first grade. I still remember my first visit to Yeoor, I had joined a badminton training camp. The coach there would take us to jog over the roads of Yeoor. As a kid, I was excited to reach the summit as soon as possible. It was a great feeling jogging across the trees on the asphalt road that led us up top. Over the years the road has remained the same but I have found many routes through the woods that lead us

Trip to Karla

It was hot throughout the day as the sun was relentlessly breathing fire. To beat the heat we decided to visit Lonavala a small sleepy hill station along the Mumbai-Pune Express Highway. We packed our bags the night before, I had brought some things for the road. Me and Sid, my younger brother, were so eager for the trip that we couldn’t sleep the entire night out of sheer excitement. I had set the alarm a half early. We woke up with the morning sun and got ready in no time. Mom had prepared poha for breakfast. We gorged on to the poha and left the house at seven and started our journey. The roads were sans the usual bustle of a Monday morning as it was a holiday. Dad revved up the speed and we zoomed into the express highway. Sid played the DJ for the day, playing songs on the music player of the car. We hummed, swayed along the music. Our car glided swiftly over the roads. We took the new Mumbai-Pune Express Highway. It is one of the amazing roads in Maharashtra. As we entere

A Trip to Vajreshwari

It was a bright sunny Sunday morning. We decided to take our new car for a long drive. Mom and Dad were super excited to go to Vajreshwari. It is a place near Thane famous for its Hot water Springs. There is a temple of Goddess Vajreshwari in the midst of the village. It is an hour’ drive from Thane. The prospect of a long drive got us excited. Mom had packed some snacks for the road, I quickly filled the water bottles, Sid my younger brother got into the act and downloaded some music for the trip, Dad was ready with the car. It was eleven when we started our journey, the sun was blazing as the temperature was soaring at thirty-six degrees. Thanks to the long weekend the traffic was too less for a Sunday. “Kab tak ginne hum dhadkane...”, I was gazing past the window as the car was gliding over the contours of the Ghodbunder road as Sid played the latest numbers from Bollywood on the radio of our car. “It’s been four years since we visited Vajreshwari.” Mom said. “Time just flie
