Internship Saga - Part 7

We entered the last week of the internship. I was still thinking about the project and I had four days to get it ready. I was raising issues in the Corporate’ mobile app and Corporate’ site. But the site and app had become stable after two years of maintenance and testing. I had started working on the Drawing Application. I created the UI, and buttons to navigate and built a simple drawing app with touch interaction and then went playing table tennis that day. Now I had two applications to show and I created a simple pedometer, QR code scanner in the next three days. On Friday we had a presentation in front of the panel. With the help of good mentors, I had created simple apps over a period of a month. The internship was coming to an end. I had started liking the atmosphere in Corporate. It was Friday the last day of the internship. I was finishing up my apps, polishing my presentation. I, Samyukta and Vaidehi went for lunch. “Today we will go and have lunch at a place of you

Internship Saga - Part 6

I had entered into a happy routine of raising issues, development and amazing lunches with Samyukta and Vaidehi. We explored the corporate on the cycle. Finding cafe’s, eateries and Restaurants. One day we had a Sizzler, the other day pizza and pasta. “It seems like a food testing internship.” I said. “Yes after having amazing food we can start a food blog.” Samyukta said. We were waiting for the shuttle that takes us to the station. “I don’t like this travelling part of the internship.” Vaidehi said. “You come from a far off place.” I said. “I will be chilled out like you once I start living with my cousin in Thane.” She said. Samyukta was not around and had already left for her home. “Do you find a place to sit in the bus?” I asked. “Sometimes there is’nt but many a times I get a window seat.” She said. We came to the bus station in Thane and where waiting for the Vasai bound bus. “Hey look there is a  bus over there.” Vaidehi said. We got into the bus but it was crowded an

It was three in the afternoon I came back to the Atlantis Labs for my development session. “Hey bro you had lunch with your Dad?” Ajinkya asked. “Yes, we had decided to have our lunch together today,” I said. “Sanket, I am planning to go for a trek tell me a spot,” Prarthi said. “If you are going for a one day trek, go for Peb fort or Loh-Gadh. Those are best for one-day treks.” I said. “Loh gadh is amazing, I went there last year,” Ajinkya said. “Even Kalvantin Durg is amazing it is near Panvel,” I said. “I will select one that is good for beginners,” Prarthi said. I got on with the development. I found another intern sitting beside Samyukta. “Have you completed your fragments?” Ajinkya asked. “Yes,” I said. “Good then teach Vaidehi,” Ajinkya said. Vaidehi was the new intern sitting beside Samyukta, she looked smart, good-natured and was serious about coding. “Hi I am Sanket. I have just completed the fragments. Have a look.” I said. Vaidehi studied the code with a concentration

Internship Saga - Part 4

“Kab tak ginne hum dhadkane...” I was hearing songs in the lab checking on the lyrics, tonality, and quality. I had been assigned Tones and Tunes for the next three days. I was accompanied by Tejas and Chitra. It was a dull job because it had a lot of routine and repetitive tasks. While developing the application I was bored by the structure of the programming languages and the constraints. I was feeling bored as the internship entered the next week. Though the monitors were friendly and encouraging the work was pretty monotonous. It was Friday and the departments were switched. I was now working on Corporate’ Phone. The monitor Abhilash was a chilled out guy who introduced us to the Phone’ essential features and asked us to explore the phone. I was ecstatic to work in the new department and had already found two issues. I felt better over here. During the development, I built a list in android using the popular listview and the recycler view. The next day I took the cycle around

“We have been assigned to raise issues in Voice. We are looking for Meghna, Voice’s monitor.” I said to the girl walking past the Stark Tower. “I am Meghna, relax there are more things to do in life than raise issues. I will be back in a moment.” She said. “Have you downloaded the app on your mobile?” She asked us as we entered the lab to raise issues. “Yes, we have installed it on our mobile,” I said with enthusiasm of cracking the Morse code. Meghna gave me a strange look. “Largely the app is stable, most of the issues have already been raised but see if you can still find any,” Meghana said. We dug into our handsets and tried to find the issues. After complete fifteen minutes, I got bored with the entire issue raising stuff. “What are you studying for?” I asked Meghna. “I am studying for CAT,” Meghna said adjusting her glasses. “You are aspiring for the top management schools?” I asked. “Dude that’s not that easy.” She said. “But your nerdy glasses suggest you would crack it w

The canteen was filled with employees from all the floors. But the canteen seemed to be a chilled out place with a lot of delicacies to try. I ordered a Mysore Masala Dosa. The chutney was tangy and sambhar was lip smacking. I gorged onto the dosa in no time as I was hungry. We came back to the Board Room and were waiting for Arya. “How was your lunch guys? Arya asked as she came in the Board room. “It was good.” We said in unison. The rest of the day was spent knowing about the work and various food outlets in the Corporate.Inc. It was Monday a fresh day of a new week. I was pumped up to start my work and get on with the issue raising stuff. But we had to wait until afternoon before the things streamlined. Waiting in the Board room we were passing our time reading books and watching the world outside the glass panes. Then suddenly in a moment’s time, one of the Corporate’s Sirs came in the Board room. “Good Afternoon, I am Nelson Marcus, the manager at the Corporate.Inc.” The ma

Internship Saga - Part 1

Having just completed my semester examination I was relaxing in the week long vacation before the Internship at the Corporate.Inc. I was excited to work for the Corporate but I had no clue what the profile was. I had applied as a computer engineering student and hoped that I would be offered a profile that would match my interests. After a week’s vacation, the joining day came. The early rays of the sun entered my room as I woke up. I got ready and was eager to go out and experience the corporate life. How the corporates are structured? How they worked? What’s the atmosphere like? With lot on my mind and few in it I hopped in the car as my Dad working for the same Corporate was going to drop me. I waved my goodbye to Mom and Sid. Dad revved up the accelerator of the car as we began our journey. I reached the campus before the reporting time. Few of my friends where waiting outside the gate, I waved them and asked them to hop in. Dad helped us with the visitor pass, that woul

Trek to Karnala Fort

The alarm buzzed at five in the morning. Lightening up a small part of the room. I woke up wrapped in the sheets in the comfort of my bed. It was dark outside. The occasional bark of the dog pierced through the silence of the early morning as I got ready for the trek. Surbhi had decided to organise a trek and had rallied everyone to join in. I always wanted to climb Karnala fort, I eagerly joined the gang. Many of our friends left the group as they preferred the prospect of watching a movie in the multiplex over trek in the nature’s abode. Having decided to meet at Kurla at seven in the morning. I was already running late for a 7:00 am local train. I reached Kurla at 7:30 am where Surbhi, Vishal and Karan where waiting for me. The fast local from Thane was crowded and with my mobile inside I couldn't pick any call. “You are late, we were almost leaving without you.” Vishal said in a mock anger. “Even I thought I wouldn’t make it too Kurla.” I said as we burst into laughter, h
